Why use Salt?

Molten salt is an ideal medium for heat storage which has been used since the 1990's. Saltes uses an innovative molten salt with enhanced characteristics compated to more traditional molten salts.

Exceptionally suited for 100-400 degrees °C and non-corrosive.

Flexible in use as the heat storage medium and heat transfer medium.

Safe to use: It is non-pressurized, non-flammable and non-explosive.

Made out of non-scarce materials found in nature and fully bio-degradable.

How our technology works

Charge

Charging with fast responsive times becasue of electric resistance heater.
Waste heat or concentrated solar power can be used for charging by adding an heat exchanger

Discharge

Discharging is done by means of a heat exchanger to heat up steam, pressurized water thermal oil or air.
Optional to move the molten salt towards the factory or use it for direct process heating

Storage

Modular insulated storage containers reducing heat loss to a minimum
For very large storage applications custom containers can be built increasing storage efficiency

Molten salt systems

Our technology has been derisked and validated by building multiple systems installed and operated worldwide.

2017-2019

First molten salt pilot validating new salt composition to produce steam with biomass combustion 250 kW.

2020-2021

Molten salt production unit used for the validation of new molten salt to produce steam using concentrated solar power.

2021-2022

Molten salt thermal cycling unit. Used for constant heat cycling salt to air and waste heat to salt.

2022-2023

Molten salt electric heating unit. Operated in operational factory to validate core functioning of ThermalPod technology.

2023-2024

The ThermalPod development together with known industrial equipment suppliers. Now ready for market implementation.
