Molten salt for heat transfer and storage

Proven, safe, and optimally flexible.

The ThermalPod runs on molten salt, a heat storage medium with decades of industrial use, controlled by software we built ourselves.

Salt as the solution

Why molten salt?

Molten salt is an excellent medium for both heat transfer and heat storage, but it hasn't lived up to its full potential: traditional salts are corrosive and only stay liquid at high temperatures, which has limited where they could be used.

We go beyond the state of the art. Saltes developed and validated a new ternary salt mix that is lower-corrosion and has a lower melting point than traditional salts, opening it up to a much wider range of industrial processes. See how we've validated it ↓

Molten salt
Suited for 100-400°C, with low corrosion compared to traditional salts.
Works as both a heat storage medium and a heat transfer medium.
Safe to use: non-pressurized, non-flammable, and non-explosive.
Made from non-scarce materials, and fully non-toxic and recyclable.
Where it comes from

Borrowed from solar power plants.

Concentrated solar power plants have used molten salt to store the sun's heat for decades, releasing it as steam long after sundown. Saltes adapts that same proven principle to store electricity instead of sunlight, so factories get affordable heat on demand, day or night.

The technology

Charge. Store. Discharge.

In essence, it's insulated tanks, pumps, and valves, equipment used across the process industry for over a hundred years. What's new is the salt blend and the control software, developed in-house, that matches every charge and discharge cycle to the cheapest available electricity.

01 / CHARGE

Electric heating or waste heat

Converts low-cost renewable electricity into stored thermal energy, with the option to integrate waste heat already available on your site.

02 / STORE

Insulated molten salt tanks

The lower melting point of our salt blend greatly reduces solidification risk, keeping heat ready to release on demand.

03 / DISCHARGE

Heat exchange to your site

Delivers steam, thermal oil, or hot air straight into your existing heat infrastructure.
